Uttarakhand Introduction

Uttarakhand is the landlocked state in India situated at the foothills of Himalayas between Tibet and Nepal. It borders China, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan States.

Landscape of Uttarakhand – Uttaranchal region is blessed with lush green meadows, majestic mountains, snow-capped peaks, beautiful lakes, picturesque gorges, dense subtropical forests, verdant valleys, enchanting rivulets and numerous streams all add up to make the paradise of Uttarakhand.

Geology of Uttarakhand – The geologically mapped area of Uttarakhand is divided into three zones, namely the Himalayan zone, the Deccan plateau and the Indo-Gangetic plain.

Climate of Uttarakhand – Uttarakhand is well known for its pleasant climate throughout the year. The average annual temperature ranges from 26°C to 8°C, making it ideal for agricultural purposes. The coldest month of the year is January, the hottest month is June. In general, humidity levels remain high throughout the region.

Flora and Fauna of Uttarakhand – This place is famous not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich flora and fauna. There are many wildlife sanctuaries around where one can witness different species of animals including bears, monkeys, deer, wild boars, hares, jackals, elephants and migratory birds.

Tourism in Uttarakhand – Tourists visiting Uttarakhand generally travel either by air (mostly Delhi), rail or road (usually via Kolkata). Many tourists visit Garhwal and Kumaon regions of Uttarakhand, particularly Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Almora. Uttarakhand’s other major tourist destinations are the Ramnagar Bird Sanctuary, Bhimtal Lake, Gangotri Glacier, and the Auli Valley.
