How to Create and Submit a Sitemap

The sitemap plays a crucial role in technical SEO and On-page SEO, A sitemap may be compared to a blueprint of what your website will really look like. In order for search engines to crawl, index, and find the material on your website, your sitemap informs them about it. Sitemaps are a useful tool for giving search engines information about the pages and content of your website. Using them helps search engines in understanding your website and the content it contains.

You can keep track of all the pages, photos, and files on your website by using a sitemap. For each of your pages, each of your photos, and each of your blog articles, you should have a sitemap. As mentioned in the previous section, the purpose of these lists is to make it simple to locate all the various content on your website in one location. There are several websites that utilise different files for post, pages, articles, and categories. It is important to remember that you need multiple sitemaps if you have more than 10,000 URLs.

Submit a Sitemap

Log in to access your Google Search Console account. From the menu, choose Crawl and then Sitemaps. Using the mentioned methods, you may manually submit your XML sitemap files to the search engines. Nevertheless, be sure to provide a location for your XML sitemap in your robots.txt file so that the spiders may find it the following time they explore. Your robots.txt file should look like this, with a Sitemap direction line for each of your several XML sitemaps :

  1. User-agent: *

  2. Disallow: /tmp/

  3. Disallow: /filename.html

  4. Sitemap: http://website.com/my-sitemap1.xml

  5. Sitemap: http://website.com/my-sitemap2.xml

All there is to it is that! You may inform search engines where to find your XML sitemaps using your robots.txt file. The rest will be handled by search engine spiders after that.
